My first week of summer class

This summer, I am taking only one class, Human Anatomy &Physiology II, because the concepts that are covered in this class are not easy to understand; especially for a student who is still learning them for the first time.  Besides that, I want to understand the concepts very well and get a better grade in this class.  My goals for this summer are to study and understand English and Human Anatomy very well so that I can prepare for my first MCAT test.  I am really worried about taking the MCAT test, because my friend told me the MCAT is really hard. She has taken the MCAT four times over the last two years and her test score was still not high enough to get her admitted to medical school.  She also shared with me that five subjects are covered in the MCAT exam but English and Biology or Anatomy are the toughest topics.  She is planning to retake the MCAT test again this fall after she restudies English.
My summer class began last Wednesday, after Memorial weekend.  The syllabus of the class was handed out and gone over by my professor on the first day.  My professor said that the class grade will only be based on the class daily quizzes, written exams and lab practical exams.  We will have four written exams and two lab practical exams throughout the entire summer class.  There are no make-up class quizzes and exams; for this reason, the student must attend the class all three days per week. The class quiz will be based on the topics that are covered the day before.  There are no extra bonus points or homework grades for this class but students must complete their homework before coming to the class.  After reading the syllabus, I was glad that I am taking only one class because the class will be requiring half of my time to study.
Wednesday night, I had to stay up late to study for my first human anatomy quiz for the next morning. The quiz questions were on the Endocrine system topic, and were taken directly from my professor class notes. The class notes are posted on the class website each morning before the class.  My first set class notes was eight pages long and I had to remember all the concepts that were discussed in them.  There were 12 questions for each quiz and students had only 5 minutes to complete them.  My hard study had paid off, and I received a score of 100% for my first quiz.  The concepts on the first quiz were not difficult to understand compared to the second.  The second quiz was last Friday and the topic was on the Endocrine glands.  I only had to remember all the concepts from 5 pages of class notes.  However, I had trouble trying to understand and remember the concepts. There were so many new long words and names that I never heard before.  I had to write the names down a couple of times but I was confused and made the same mistakes over and over again. I only received a 95% for my second quiz.  I was sad and disappointed but I will study harder for the future quizzes.  The first written exam will be next Friday.  My first lab for this class was last Friday morning; it was a cat dissecting lab.  My team was provided with a female cat. We had to cut into the cat to see all the internal organs such as heart, glands, kidney, liver, etc.  During the lab, I got a small cut on the left arm caused by a teammate. We tried to follow the cat dissecting procedure or instruction that was provided in the lab manual. First, we laid the cat on its back on a dissecting tray. We made a vertical incision starting below the chin and continuing on one side of the sternum to the interior border of the sternum. From the top and bottom of the vertical incision, we made lateral incisions to both the right and the left sides. We carefully opened up the chest cavity.  My teammate picked up a little surgery knife, (scalpel), which we had used to cut the cat open, to enlarge the thoracic cavity so that we could locate the thymus gland   more easily.  When he picked up the scalpel that was laid underneath my arm, the sharp side of the knife made a small cut on my arm.  I washed the cut with soap and hot water and put alcohol on it however, I worried that the cat might have some disease and I might be infected with it.  I hope this issue would never occur.  My teammate was sorry for his action, but the accident did happen because of our careless mistake. Anyway, I have learned a valuable lesson that I will never wear a short sleeve shirt for dissecting lab.
I am happy to report that I painted my deck this week as well.  The weather has been nice and sunny since Tuesday, after two rainy weeks.  My deck looks beautiful with the new paint and I love it. On Friday afternoon, I received a telephone call from Marwell’s hiring manager to schedule a technical phone interview with his senior design engineer for next Monday morning. The job descriptions which the hiring manger provided me through the email matched perfectly with my engineering experiences and skills.  I hope that I will be able to pass the phone technical interview and can have a chance to interview onsite.    I hope your week is going well.
